Chimney and Stove Work in Dundee

The work we do in Dundee

The job that comes up most in Dundee is putting a modern stove into a sandstone tenement whose chimney was built for coal. Those flues are usually unlined, so a flexible stainless steel liner goes in first, then the stove, then the HETAS paperwork that Building Standards and your insurer will ask for.

Most of our installations sit in the West End, Broughty Ferry, Stobswell, Lochee and along the Ferry Road corridor. Down by the Tay, salt wind is hard on terminals, so we tend to fit anti-downdraught cowls and stainless steel caps there rather than cheaper mild steel.

Waterfront flats and new-build estates often have no chimney at all. For those we look at a twin wall flue route instead, which runs through the roof or up an outside wall.

Converted jute mills and Georgian townhouses turn up too. Mill conversions often have flues that were altered during the conversion, so we survey before we quote. Post-war semis usually have a straightforward chimney that takes a liner and stove well, and they make up a good share of the city sweeps we do each autumn. If your fire has been out of use for a few years, start with a sweep and an inspection before buying a stove.

More on each service: chimney sweeping, stove installation, stove maintenance and twin wall flues.
