What does a HETAS certificate actually prove?

It records that a registered installer fitted the appliance and flue and self-certified the work against Building Standards. It is the evidence an insurer or a purchaser's solicitor will ask for.

Is HETAS registration a legal requirement?

Using a registered installer is not compulsory, but the work must comply with Building Standards either way. Without a registered installer you have to arrange and pay for a separate building control inspection.

My stove was fitted years ago with no paperwork. What now?

Book an inspection. We assess the installation against current requirements and tell you plainly whether it is safe, what would bring it up to standard and what can be documented.

Does the certificate cover the chimney as well as the stove?

The installation is certified as a system, which includes the flue, the hearth and ventilation. That is why we survey the flue rather than just fitting an appliance to whatever is there.

How quickly do I get the certificate?

It follows shortly after commissioning and is emailed to you, so you have a digital copy that will not go missing in a drawer.
