Are your prices fixed or estimates?

Accepted Answer

Our quotes are fixed once we've surveyed the property. If something genuinely unexpected appears once we open up the chimney we'll discuss it before we proceed — no after-the-fact surprises.

Do I need HETAS registration for a stove install in St Andrews?

A lot of Fife property was built for coal and never lined. Coal flues are usually wide, cold and porous by now, which is fine for an open fire and poor for a modern stove that produces less heat up the flue. A stainless liner brings the flue diameter down to the appliance size and restores the draw. We tell you after the survey, not before it.

September and October are our busiest weeks by a wide margin. Booking in late summer usually gets you the date you want; booking in November usually means waiting.

Do you provide certificates that letting agents accept?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every sweep produces a certificate showing the address, the appliance, the work carried out and the condition of the flue. Agents and insurers file these directly, and we can email copies to both the landlord and the agency.

Is a wood burning stove different to a multifuel one for this work?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Wood burns best on a bed of ash with air from above, so wood-only stoves have no grate. Multifuel models have a riddling grate and take air from below, which matters for smokeless fuels. The flue deposits differ too, which changes how often it should be swept.
