Why a traditional stove suits so many local homes
A traditional stove is the familiar shape: a solid box with a flat or arched top, a single glass door and a flue rising from the top or the back. It sits happily in an old stone fireplace, a sandstone villa or a cottage with a recess that once held an open fire, and that is exactly where most of these jobs end up.
Because the fireplace already exists, the question is rarely whether a traditional stove will look right. The question is whether the chimney behind it is ready to carry one safely, and that is what our survey answers before you commit to anything.
What we look at in an older fireplace
Old chimneys were built for open fires, not closed stoves. Before quoting we check:
- The size of the recess and whether the stove leaves the clearances it needs
- The condition of the existing flue, and whether it needs a liner
- The hearth, and whether it is large enough in front of the door
- Ventilation in the room for the stove's output
- Whether woodburning or multifuel makes more sense for how you plan to use it
Supplied by us, or the stove you already chose
Plenty of people fall for a particular traditional stove before they ever call an installer. That is fine. We fit stoves customers have bought themselves, and we can also supply one if you would rather we recommended a model that suits the room and the flue. Either way, we talk it through before anything is ordered so you do not end up with a stove the chimney cannot serve.
From survey to certificate
Once the survey is done, the work usually runs in the same order: any liner and register plate work in the chimney, positioning the stove on the hearth, connecting the flue, then lighting and commissioning it with you so you know how the controls behave.
As HETAS registered installers we sign the job off with a HETAS certificate, which covers the building regulations side without a separate inspection. Afterwards we can keep the chimney swept and the stove serviced, so the traditional look carries on working properly for years.

Can a traditional stove go into my existing fireplace?
Usually, yes. The survey confirms the recess size, clearances, hearth and flue condition, and whether a liner is needed first.
Do you only fit stoves you supply?
No. We fit stoves you have bought yourself, or we can supply one. We advise on suitability before anything is ordered.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes. Every stove we fit is signed off with a HETAS certificate.
